Library building reopens, goes fine free February 1; expanding hours by late 2021
The library is excited to have our building open once again for browsing and computer use! Our popular Grab and Go service will continue to be offered upon request. Some other services will be limited, such as in-person programs and one-on-one technology assistance. That being said, the library is open 24/7 online, with brand new databases and streaming services for 2021, such as Hoopla.
The library staff have adapted to these uncertain times and have even started to provide new services, such as youth mystery bags, make and take crafts, Grab and Go materials pick up, and a plethora of online programs. For those unable to make it to the library, we offer Homebound Services to New Lenox residents. To make services more accessible to those facing financial difficulties, the library will no longer be charging daily overdue fines starting February 1.
An outcome that was promised to the community as a result of the successful referendum was expanded hours. We are preparing for this exciting and long awaited expansion of service, which is slated to begin in late summer/early fall barring any extreme changes in the pandemic. Although the past year has been challenging, we continue to move forward, reinvent ourselves, and plan for the future.
