Tween Lock-In

Tween Lock-In

The tweens who attended the Library's first-ever, after-hours lock-in on May 10 had an awesome time doing lots of cool activities from 7-11 pm. Check out the Library's Facebook page for some photos of the fun, which included life-sized Angry Birds, t-shirt decorating, a photo booth, and even more! Looking for more great programs for your children in grades 4-8? The Library offers the following programs for that age group: Girls Rock Book Club, Guys Read, The Scene, The Scene Remix, Science Club, and Art Club! Take a look at our calendar or program guide to find and register for these programs and more.

Summer Reading is Coming

Summer Reading Program

Youth Services is getting ready for this year's Summer Reading Program: Paws to Read, and the animals have invaded! The next time you're at the Library, take a look at all the animal-related activities and decorations scattered throughout the youth department. We've got monkeys in the tree, footprints on the walls, and more! But you don't have to be a kid to take part in the fun and earn prizes! Remember, Summer Reading for all ages (birth-adult) begins June 2.

Closed for In-Service Day

The library will be closed Friday, May 16th, for a staff in-service day. We will reopen Saturday, May 17th, at 10:00am.

What Does the Librarian Say? (the Fox parody)

Join us at the New Lenox Public Library for this year's summer reading program, Paws to Read, beginning on June 2. Keep track of your time spent reading to earn prizes and coupons. Participating in summer reading is as easy as reading/listening to books, marking your sheets, checking in for prizes, and spinning the wheel! Check out our video to learn more!

Board Approves Policy Changes

At the April 21 Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved changes to the general policy which will allow you more use of the library's materials. Here are some of the highlights:

  • If you lose your card, now you will not have to pay for the first replacement. The cost will remain $1 for any additional replacement.
  • New books may now be renewed if there are no holds on them.
  • More than one flip camera may be checked out at a time.
  • TV Shows will now checkout for 2 weeks instead of 1 week.
  • A friend or family member may be allowed access to your account. If you sign off on it, they will be able to place holds, renew items, checkout items and holds on your card. Please ask at the Circulation Desk if you are interested in signing-up.
  • You can buy a variety of items at the service desks including earbuds, flash drives, headphones and more. These items and their cost are now in the policy.
  • We have a brand new Digital Media Lab Policy for our new lab which will open on Monday, June 2.

You can read the entire policy (PDF).
