Goals and
Objectives
General Information Goals and Objectives
Goal 1.1 - The
community will find assistance and resources to answer questions on a broad
number of topics to succeed in work, school, and personal life.
Goal 1.2 New
Lenox Public Library patrons will have access to trained staff to assist them
in finding materials on a broad array of topics.
Goal 1.3 The
library will educate and instruct the public and staff on ways to find
information in current and new technologies.
Goal 1.4 The
library will create an accessible, available, and up-to-date collection.
Goal 1.5 Reference service will be available to patrons 24/7 through a variety of means including, but not limited to in-person, telephone, e-mail, chat, and virtual reference technology.
Goal 1.6 The
Library will add service hours as funding becomes available.
Goal 1.7 The Library will increase operating funds with a successful referendum by 2010.
Goal 1.8 The Library will anticipate new trends in information technology and will initiate them as funding allows.
Lifelong Learning Goals and Objectives
Goal 2.1- The library will provide a social and learning environment within the community.
Goal 2.2 Children will develop a love of reading and lifelong learning that will contribute to future success and productive and satisfying lives.
Goal 2.3 The
Circulation Department will utilize new technology and automation to streamline
the department and free-up staff to perform more personalized services for
patrons.
Goal 2.4 The librarys circulation will increase each year by 10%.
Goal 2.5 All departments will utilize bulletin displays, and factoids to inform patrons entering the building of upcoming programs and current events.
Goal 2.6 Residents will have opportunities to learn how to find and evaluate information in a rapidly changing technological world so that they can use new information technology effectively.
Current Titles and Topics Goals and Objectives
Goal 3.1 District residents will have access to a wealth of current and popular materials and programs that stimulate their thinking, satisfy their curiosity, expand their knowledge of contemporary culture and society, and make their leisure time more enjoyable and their business time more productive.
Goal 3.2 The
library will promote and market programs on various topics and services for all
ages.
Community Gathering Environment Goals and Objectives
Goal 4.1 Continue the Teen Advisory Board
· The group will meet monthly.
Goal 4.2 - Make the library inviting all the time
· Adequate staffing to guide people
· PR training for staff
· Displays in the entry; concentrate on community or school organizations
Goal 4.3 - Make the library more user-friendly.
· Classes for the Internet; possibly partner with the high school
· Local Area Network: on-line catalog, personal computers for patrons
· Self-check machines
· Recruit volunteers to be Internet assistants or tutors
Goal 4.4 The Library will market itself and its services to the community.
· Provide a weekly column for the New Lenox Community Reporter
· Form partnerships with other organizations such as the New Lenox Historical Society, Lincoln-Way Community High School, and other appropriate groups
o Start one partnership each year
· Organize a senior citizen advisory group by April 2007
· Develop a marketing plan to include:
o Formation of a marketing team
o Communications audit
o Interviews with representatives of target population groups
o Staff surveys
o Develop strategy for plan
o Implement plan
The Long-Range Plan will be evaluated annually in November of each
year.
